What are the youngest age children can start training?
The SCUKO grading syllabus states that the minimum age for attempting first grade, 9th Kyu, is 7 Years of Age. Schools may allow students to train from the age of 6 but they will not be allowed to grade until they are seven. Schools will have their own minimum age higher than 7.

Will I be allowed to keep my grade if I join your organisation?
Students from other Karate Organisations who transfer to SCUKO may retain their current grade, but must be assessed within 12 months of the transfer, and the grade will be awarded according to SCUKO standards.

I have had a break from training, do I need to regrade?
No, just train hard to get back to the required standard. If you are from another federation the above rule regarding joining from another organisation will apply.

Are your events open to members from other organisations?
Most of our events are only available to SCUKO students. However, we do have 2 events each year that are open. These are the Winter Course in January and the Summer Camp in July. See the Calendar for details.

Are members allowed to attend events run by other organisations?
Yes. We do not encourage this with children or Kyu grades. However, we believe that it is very healthy for senior Dan grades to learn from as many sources as possible. What we do not accept is students being a member of 2 organisations. Therefore, as long as the event is open we are happy for senior Dan grades to attend.
