SCUKO is affiliated to
the Federation of English Karate Organisations International.
F.E.KO. acts as an umbrella organisation for over
70 Karate groups and 17,000 members in the UK covering all styles of Karate.
Membership of FEKO gives us the protection and a voice in the Karate arena.
As a member,
all SCUKO locations have Public Liability cover when students
are training. All SCUKO students automatically have Public Liability
and member to member cover through FEKO when affiliating to SCUKO.
The most important part of the SCUKO structure is the Instructor
Training Programme. It is very important that all Instructors have SCUKO
Instructor Accreditation. This confirms an instructor knows the SCUKO
syllabus, has an understanding of the technical standards expected and
has the ability to teach to these standards. It also confirms the instructor
has the ability to teach to a satisfactory standard
in a Safe and Professional Way.
It is a requirement that all Instructors carry Professional Indemnity
insurance with minimum
of £2 million cover. All instructors must also have a Criminal Records
Bureau Enhanced Disclosure check every two years. It is a requirement
that all instructors be First Aid qualified.
All registered instructors must also sign up to the SCUKO Code
of Ethics and Statement of Equality. The Code of Ethics sets out the requirements
for the behaviour of a SCUKO instructor teaching Karate, together
with the rights and expectations of both instructors and students. The
Statement of Equality confirms that an instructor will treat all students
and prospective students with respect, dignity and equality
All of these requirements are addressed as part of the Instructor Training
Programme. Administratively all clubs requirements are handled through
one SCUKO central
contact making communication very easy. Help and advice on any matter
is given.
