| Clubs
and Instructors
Historically, Shotokan Karate clubs have belonged
to 2 types of Karate organisation. The first is the traditional type of
organisation with a strong technical emphasis, but often a lacking a good
support system for clubs and very much focused on financially supporting
the organisational hierarchy. The second is the alternative multi-style
organisation which can often offer a much better support structure plus
allowing much of the finance to remain in the clubs. However, they often
have no input technically and many clubs lack immediate technical guidance,
which can lead to a shift in standards over time.
SCUKO offers an important alternative for clubs giving them a
superb support structure, allowing them to keep finances in the club,
but without allowing them to compromise their standards. In order that
standards are kept, we strictly adhere to our traditional Shotokan Karate
grading syllabus. This along with our instructors training programme,
to emphasise requirements, ensures that we build and continuously improve
our organisational capability within our member clubs.
The organisation started with one club making the extremely hard decision
of leaving its large traditional organisation after becoming disillusioned.
This left them alone, looking around for a new home. The fear was of “jumping
out of the frying pan into the fire” so the club decided to go independent,
until the next step was decided. However, before too long, the club was
approached by others, including schools and senior instructors, and so
SCUKO was formed.
The intention in the beginning was not to grow or be a large organisation.
This is still the case. We are not in existence purely to grow, but if
you are a Karate instructor and like what you see then we would be happy
to speak to you regarding joining SCUKO.
We are in the lucky position to have a full time administrator at hand to take your call at any time and refer you to the correct person to answer you enquiry. Our Freephone number is displayed in the "Contact Us" page.
